About Us

The Martin Theatre, located in downtown Douglas, GA, is a historic venue that has been bringing people together for generations.

Driven by passion

Originally opened in 1940, the theatre operated as a movie house until 1970, hosting films, dance performances, and the beloved “Juke Box Saturday Night.”

Restored to its original Art Deco splendor, The Martin has been reimagined as a performing arts center and community gathering space.

Today, it hosts live music, theatre productions, and events that bring energy and connection back to the heart of Douglas and Coffee County.

Big Ideas,
Real Impact

In 2019, the theatre entered a new chapter when it was purchased from the City of Douglas by local entrepreneurs Robb Hurst and Brian Norris. With a shared passion for live entertainment and historic preservation, they set out to restore The Martin as a cultural cornerstone for the region.

Through the Martin Centre Preservation Company, their vision is to expand access to the arts, preserve the theatre’s legacy, and create meaningful experiences for the community. The Martin is more than a venue—it’s a catalyst for connection, economic growth, and quality of life in South Georgia, supporting downtown revitalization and drawing people together through shared experiences.

Today, The Martin continues to grow as a destination for live events, performances, and community gatherings—offering something for everyone while honoring its historic roots.

Before The Martin Theatre could become what it is today…it had to be saved.

In this video, Brian Norris and Robb Hurst share the story behind their involvement in preserving one of Douglas, Georgia’s most important historic landmarks.
